Karigar job work in Odoo: controlling gold and diamond losses

In a jewellery workshop, metal and stones are constantly out with someone: issued to a karigar for casting, setting or polishing, and expected back as finished or semi-finished pieces. Most workshops still reconcile this in a register or a spreadsheet at the end of the week. By the time a loss shows up, the job is long finished and the conversation is hard.

Track the job, not just the stock

The fix is to make every movement part of a job. Each job bag carries:

• the design and the quantity ordered
• the karigar or workshop it is issued to, and the process: casting, filing, setting, polishing
• gold issued, by gross weight and purity, so fine gold is calculated, not assumed
• diamonds and stones issued, by pieces and carats
• the agreed loss allowance for that process

Issue and receipt, every time

When the work comes back, the receipt is recorded against the same job: finished weight, returned metal, dust and scrap, stones set and stones returned. Odoo then shows the difference straight away. Within the allowance, the job closes. Beyond it, the job is flagged while everyone still remembers what happened.

Lost wax and plain gold need different flows

Lost-wax diamond jewellery moves through wax, tree casting, cutting, filing, setting and polishing, often across several karigars. Plain gold work is usually simpler, with fewer stages and no stones. Forcing both through one flow makes each harder to use, so we model them as two routes on the same foundation.

What the owner sees

• metal and stone balance with each karigar, at any moment
• loss per process and per karigar against the agreed allowance
• jobs open longer than usual
• fine gold in the workshop, in the vault and out on job work

The system does not replace trust between a workshop and its karigars. It removes the guesswork that wears that trust down.
